President

Michael Smith has over 30 years of experience in the mechanical field as a contactor and mechanical engineer. Michael is a licensed Professional Engineer in over 35 states and is a LEED accredited professional. After graduation from Mississippi State University in 1994, Michael worked for a mechanical contractor responsible for designing turnkey mechanical projects as well as estimating and managing design-bid-build projects.

This provided valuable practical experience in the building industry as he transitioned to a consulting engineer running a satellite office in Starkville, Mississippi. In 2000, Michael moved to Texas and started working in Dallas for a consulting engineering company. During that time he worked on several high profile projects in Dallas including the first LEED building in Dallas, Jack Evans Police Headquarters and the DFW Terminal D project. In 2003, Michael created MD Engineering to provide MEP design services to architects and public and private sector clients. While under Michael’s leadership, MD Engineering has become known as one of the leading firms for MEP in jails and fire stations around Texas. Michael is considered a leader in the Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) industry for implementing VRF technology in multiple vertical markets.

Director Of Electrical Engineering

Randy has 25 years of engineering and project management experience encompassing projects ranging from new construction to complete building system retrofits. As a Director of Electrical Engineering at MD Engineering, he is responsible for all aspects of project management, project design, code compliance, field coordination and preparation of design drawings and specifications. He has been responsible for projects with scopes spanning from the 200,000 square foot hospitals to individual tenant designs in existing office buildings to large jail expansions.

He has developed a diversified engineering background in electrical system design. His experience encompasses all phases of project development from initial concept design through construction administration. He has applied his design skills to mid-rise office buildings, large computer centers, health care facilities, educational buildings, sports facilities, hotels and various types of industrial buildings.

DIRECTOR OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

John has 35 years of experience in engineering ranging from new construction to remodel and facility assessments for healthcare, technology, laboratories, commercial, multi-family, high-rise residential, office, religious, restaurants, mixed use, educational, and institutional facilities.

John’s experience also includes project management oversight (and technical coordination) of the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems integration with other Consultants (Owner, Developer, Program Manager, and Contractors) and Disciplines (Architecture, Interiors, Structural, Civil, Kitchen Equipment, Acoustics, Laboratory and Medical Equipment technology planning, Owner-furnished Equipment/FF&E, pneumatic tube systems, fire suppression systems, and multiple low voltage systems (Nurse Call, Fire Alarm, IT, Security/AV, Building Management and Facility Management Systems)) to cohesively integrate these complex systems together into the built environment throughout the planning, design, and Construction Administration (CA) phases.

John also has extensive experience related to Risk Management and Mitigation, “Value-Engineering”, Facility Assessment Surveys/Reports, Field Observations/Reports, Contracts and Proposals, as well as Submittal and As-Built Drawing Review. Acting as the engineering Project Manager (PM) and key point of contact for engineering-related systems over 15 years has allowed John to identify project workflow, obtain approved decisions, and minimize changes in scope and impacts to the project schedule. Through these experiences, John has the enhanced ability to recognize and pull resources together to find solutions in solving problems, and meet/exceed project deadlines, goals, and client expectations.

DIRECTOR OF CONSTRUCTION ADMINISTRATION

Jason Mansur has over 20 years of experience in the construction and the MEP field in various roles on projects ranging from large multi-story commercial projects, large retail buildings to the design and build of residential projects. In 1995, Jason started a construction company that concentrated on customer satisfaction and quality, winning many industry awards. Two years later he acquired a MEP company and integrated it with his construction company.

In 2006, Jason was one of the first companies to start installing Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems in Indiana. In 2014, Jason moved to Texas to develop a VRF department and train employees in VRF installation practices, at a Texas based mechanical contractor. Throughout his career, Jason has installed multiple types of mechanical systems including close to 5000+ tons of VRF. Jason joined MD Engineering to manage the Construction Administration department to ensure our Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) design is implemented and installed properly for our clients.
